Thrall Takes the Wheel: World of Warcraft Partners with Waze for Epic Navigation
In celebration of the game’s 20th anniversary, World of Warcraft has partnered with the Google-owned GPS navigation service Waze.
Users will have the option of receiving route guidance from the voice of (former) Horde warchief Thrall, in addition to graphic options featuring both the Alliance and Horde.
Thrall’s original voice actor, Warcraft executive creative director Chris Metzen, is still the voice actor for the character, although if his voice navigation is limited to English-speaking users.
Those who use Thrall’s voice guidance will get to hear the Orc leader describe making a U-turn as “a clever strategy to fool any pursuers on our tail” or share his wisdom that being trapped in heavy traffic is “not the end of the world.”
Users can click “pick a sidekick” on the main menu and choose “Drive with World of Warcraft” to activate Thrall in Waze.
Users can then use Thrall’s voice to provide voice instructions. Users have the option to change their automobile icon into a fire-breathing red dragon, a creature that is well-known to World of Warcraft gamers, in addition to choices for Horde or Alliance moods.
Earlier Waze partnerships included Batman and A-listers like Arnold Schwarzenegger, as well as the voice of Master Chief or Brute Chieftain Escharum for the launch of Halo Infinite.
It’s just the most recent way that Blizzard is honoring World of Warcraft’s 20th anniversary.
Later this year, players will be able to gather some of the most recognizable armor sets in World of Warcraft during a big in-game event.
Other Blizzard titles have also joined in, with Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 providing cosmetics with a WoW theme.
