Red Card: United Win Appeal To Suspend Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United’s appeal against the red card given to Bruno Fernandes during Sunday’s 3-0 loss to Tottenham was successful.

After challenging James Maddison in the first half, Fernandes was dismissed. When he came in on Maddison, the United captain seemed to trip, but he still managed to fling out a leg and catch the Spurs midfielder.

Fernandes was given a straight red card by referee Chris Kavanagh, and VAR John Brooks confirmed the call. However, the FA said on Monday that they had reversed the ruling following United’s appeal.

Fernandes won’t face a suspension and may play in United’s upcoming Premier League matches against Brentford, West Ham and Aston Villa. “Bruno Fernandes will be available for Manchester United’s next three games following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal,” the Football Association said in a statement on Tuesday.

Even though he saw Tottenham dominate even before Fernandes was sent off, United manager Erik ten Hag claimed the red card “changed the game” against the visitors.

Furious by the ruling, Fernandes argued Maddison had stated it wasn’t a send-off.
