Josh Giddey Talks To His Fans Through His Injury Problem
Josh Giddey, the new guard for the Chicago Bulls, claimed he suffered a ruptured ankle ligament while representing Australia in the Olympics in Paris, but he anticipates being ready to play right away.
During the Bulls’ media day on Monday, Giddey revealed that the damage he sustained to his anterior talofibular ligament during Australia’s last Olympic game turned out to be more serious than first thought.
Giddey responded, “I’ll be fine,” when asked if he will play in the Bulls’ away season opening against the New Orleans Pelicans on October 23.
Giddey even stated that he would be able to play immediately if it were the playoffs, despite his gradual ramp-up leading up to training camp. Since the Bulls plan to up the tempo this season, a healthy start to the season is crucial.
“We started scrimmaging with 14-second shot clocks to emphasize the pace we want to play,” Giddey stated on Monday.
“Once it becomes a habit, this team’s going to be pretty scary in the open court.” The Bulls acquired guard Giddey, who turns 22 on October 10, from the Oklahoma City Thunder on June 21 in exchange for guard Alex Caruso.
Chicago was granted a trading exception as well.
