Proteas Spinner Tabraiz Shamsi Leaves CSA Contract to Explore Global Options

With immediate effect, Tabraiz Shamsi, a left-arm wristspinner from South Africa, has opted out of his national contract with CSA.
He will no longer be restricted by South African duties and can play more freely in T20 leagues around the globe as a free agent.
Shamsi is still eligible to play for South Africa, and their white-ball teams are anticipated to include him in important competitions.
“I have decided to opt out of my central contract in order to be more flexible during the domestic season, allowing me to explore all opportunities available and look after my family in the best way possible,” according to a statement from the CSA.
“I will always be available to play for my country whenever needed, and this will in no way affect my ability or motivation to play for the Proteas.
Playing for my country will always be more important to me than any franchise league, and it has always been my desire to bring the World Cup to South Africa.”
Shamsi has not participated in South Africa’s current tour of the United Arab Emirates, which includes matches against Afghanistan and Ireland, since he last played for the team in the T20 World Cup final against India in June.
In order to broaden their player pool, South Africa utilised the matches to rest a few of their more experienced players.
Shamsi’s inability to return home during this year’s CPL could be another reason for him to renounce his CSA contract.
Shamsi didn’t win any honours, but he was nevertheless required by his contract to attend the CSA awards ceremony.
Even if it meant abandoning their overseas duties in the middle of their contracts, CSA has always historically expected contractual players to attend the awards.
Shamsi missed three games for the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots, which resulted in his losing some of his match fee even though he went back to the West Indies to participate in the CPL.
ESPNcricinfo understands the match costs from leagues amount to large sums, and are more profitable than national contracts.
