Outlast Game Maker Suffers Cyber Attack, Data Stolen
Red Barrels, the developer of the Outlast franchise, affirmed to players in a letter that it was the target of a cyberattack that led to data theft.
Red Barrels’ attention was taken off the upcoming major update in favour of addressing the cybersecurity concern while they worked on The Outlast Trials.
Franco “Il Bambino” Barbi, a new killer, was introduced in July’s Project Lupara, The Outlast Trials’ most recent update. The Programs menu was redesigned in addition to the new mechanics.
The first season of the game, Project Lupara, demonstrates Red Barrels’ dedication to regularly updating the game.
Red Barrels announced on October 2 that it had been the target of a cyberattack earlier in the year in a letter to gamers.
Company data was stolen as a result of the incident, and a third-party cybersecurity firm was brought in to carry out a thorough investigation. No player information was compromised, according to the investigation’s findings.
Red Barrels’ attention has been diverted to countering the cyber threat, so the upcoming update will be postponed while the team works to strengthen their cybersecurity and produce new content.
Although it was established that the cyberattack did not compromise player information, no additional information regarding the data that was impacted was provided.
