Slot Warns Liverpool Players Against Displaying ‘Mediocrity’

The Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, has said that he will not put up with “mediocrity” as the team attempts to build on the positive start to his first season. After nearly nine years as head coach, Jürgen Klopp was replaced by Slot in the summer.

In his first eight games in charge this season across all competitions, Slot has won seven of them.

When asked why he was dissatisfied with his players following Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, Slot responded that it had to do with maintaining standards.

“We as a team, if you have so much quality, you cannot accept mediocrity,” he declared at the press conference held in front of Liverpool’s Wednesday home match against Bologna.

“You have to ask from yourself every second of the day, every second of the game, the highest standards that this shirt brings.”

The last 15 minutes [against Wolves], in which we lost the ball so frequently in circumstances that looked promising or that may have led to promising positions, may not have been acceptable.

As a staff, we have to be extremely clear about these criteria.” The Dutch coach went on to say that his team expects the same kind of play from themselves, therefore he doesn’t need to lose his cool to get his point across. ”

I don’t lose my temper that much, I don’t think it is a good idea to lose your temper every single day because it doesn’t work,” he stated.
